Abstract
Literary works can reflect people's lives as social beings connected to social groups, classes, stratification, institutions, systems, interactions, conflicts, awareness, and more. Researching literary works through the sociology of literature approach can reveal social phenomena, particularly social conflict. The literary work to be studied is the novel Saga dari Samudra by Ratih Kumala. This research aims to describe the social conflict present in Saga dari Samudra by Ratih Kumala. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative, employing a literary sociology approach. The data collected consists of descriptions in the form of words, images, and similar elements, rather than numerical data, regarding social conflict as derived from an analysis of Saga dari Samudra by Ratih Kumala. This study analyzes social conflict using Alwi's theory of conflict, which classifies conflicts based on their nature and the position of the perpetrator. The research identifies five types of conflict in Saga dari Samudra by Ratih Kumala, which include four types of destructive conflict, one type of constructive conflict, one type of horizontal conflict, one type of diagonal conflict, and one type of vertical conflict.
